Empathetic Educators: What can you expect?

Picture
Hey there,
Welcome to the Empathetic Educators blog. Let's get started!!

So I have given myself the challenge to read a book a week for the next 20 weeks and you can see the order of books that I am reading in this image.

First things first, I don't know about you but I literally have book selves full of books that have basically been ornaments, looking pretty since the day I got them. Constantly reassuring myself 'I will read them one day.' So I decided today is that day, or this is that week! I have added my top 20 books that I want to read into a weekly list. Wooooohoooo!! Have you got any of these books on your list? Could you read them or your own book along with me?

Secondly, I have matched up my Empathetic Educators sessions with each weekly book review. Some weeks I have interviewed the author of the book. As you can see in the images below, in Week 1 I will be releasing my interview with Richard Gerver, (one of the most exciting moments of my life to date) and I will be releasing a review of his books 'Change' the same week.

Other weeks I have joined interviews that relate to the book that I will be reading. For instance, in Season 1, Week 4, I will be reading and reviewing, Mind Power by John Kehoe but I will be releasing the interview with Barbara Oakley because she has some amazing #toptiptakeaways to help us understand our minds.
Now, you will notice that I mentioned, Season 1. That is because I intend to split the 20 weeks up into different seasons. As part of my journey personally and professionally, I have realised that certain things are important to me as well as important to many other people who have crossed my path. Alongside the view points of many I have spoken with, as well as the research I have already done, I believe there are 4 cornerstones that empower us to Empathise with ourselves and in turn Empathise with others. They are:

Season 1: Change, looking at our inner self and holding ourselves accountable for our actions.
Season 2: Perspectives, being considerate and growing awareness of others and their needs.
Season 3: Relationships, learning different ways we communicate and reflecting on what we expect vs what we accept
Season 4: Systems, developing a culture where creativity, fun and consistency all build trust
What are your thoughts? Do you have any other opinions that may challenge mine so far? I hope over the next 20 weeks you will be able to share your thoughts and opinions so we can grow together.

Oh, that is one last things I want to mention. Growth, I hope you noticed the images at the bottom of each season. The reason that we start with a seed is because I am going to start by weeding out my current thinking to open new pathways and clear way for growth. Working our way through, laying foundations and eventually creating a mental garden that we can nurture for continual growth!

I hope you can join me for this journey! Let me know if you have any thoughts, comments or questions so far!

Remember, our choices have an impact - what impact will you have?
